A Borrowed Umbrella
It was raining at the Queen Victoria Market when Rowan offered his umbrella to a stranger browsing the secondhand book stall. Celeste refused politely, then accepted when the downpour doubled. They walked three blocks sharing it, talking about Gabriel Garcia Marquez and pho.
August 2022
Dinner Became Breakfast
What started as drinks at a laneway bar turned into dinner at Chin Chin, then dessert at a hidden gelato spot in Degraves Street. They closed the place, walked along the Yarra at midnight, and had coffee at the first cafe that opened at six. Neither wanted the night to end.
January 2026
The Question at Dawn
Rowan drove them to the Mornington Peninsula for sunrise. At the lookout above Cape Schanck, with the ocean crashing below and the sky turning amber, he asked. Celeste said yes before he finished the sentence. The lighthouse keeper was their only witness.
